There is nothing typical about the Wells family or their store and to mistake them as being typical of Vermont is foolishness. They are the opposite of Vermont. Apart from the high prices and their overall rudeness, there are other issues involved in doing business with these people. In short, if you want your money to go to right-wing political and religious fanatics, then shop with the Wellses. Laura Wells was even profiled in USA Today for her right-wing activism and the fact that it stood out in Vermont (google it and find out). That article was wrong in portraying her as a kind of happy contrarian, when she is, in fact, an angry and vile little woman. Not everybody in a small town is a laid-back, happy soul. The homophobic comments we heard from Laura Wells when we were in the store are enough to make our family feel uncomfortable shopping here. Personally, I care about where my money goes, and I don't particularly want to support the more conservative elements of the Republican party or the Catholic church, or give it to people that would deny me or others their basic human rights. Maybe this might not be an issue to some people, but it is to me and my family, especially since Mr. and Mrs. Wells use the store as a means of advertising their political viewpoints, That makes it fair game. I'd rather go without something than buy it from these people. Everyone deserves to know where the money they spend is going to go. Fair warning.
